The 2023 result
In 2023, Julie Anne Genter (Green) won Rongotai by 2,717 votes over Fleur Fitzsimons (Labour). The seat was called Rongotai before the 2025 boundary review. The candidate vote split Green 39.5% to Labour 33.0%, a margin of 6.5 points. Its boundaries have changed for 2026, so the 2026 seat isn't exactly the same area that voted in 2023.
The 2023 winner, Julie Anne Genter, is standing again.
On the party vote, Green led with 32.1%, ahead of Labour on 31.4%.
What it would take to change hands
On the 2026 boundaries, the 2023 votes would put Green 8.6 points ahead of Labour (an estimate by The Tally Room). Labour would need a swing of about 4.3 points from Green to take it: each point that moves from one to the other closes the gap by two.
This seat was won by a smaller party on its candidate's personal vote. National party-vote swings are a poor guide here, so the calculator keeps it with Green unless you choose otherwise.
