About The Count
The Count is an independent, unofficial site for the 2026 New Zealand general election. Before the election it's a calculator: set the party vote, pick electorate winners, and see exactly how MMP turns that into a Parliament, including who gets in on each party's list. On election night it becomes a live results explorer, working out the seats from the votes counted so far and calling electorates as they become safe.
It's a personal project, not connected to any political party or campaign, and it isn't affiliated with the Electoral Commission. Accuracy comes first: the site never makes up candidates, list places, poll figures or results.
Where the data comes from
- Candidates, party lists, 2023 results and election-night results: the Electoral Commission (© Crown copyright).
- 2023 results on the new 2025 boundaries: notional estimates by The Tally Room.
- Polls: as published by each pollster, collected from Wikipedia's list of 2026 opinion polls and checked daily.
- Sitting MPs: the members of the 54th Parliament.
The seat calculations follow the Electoral Act 1993 and are checked against the Electoral Commission's own 2023 seat allocation.
Support The Count
The Count is free to use. If you've found it useful, you can buy it a coffee: it helps cover hosting and the live-results service on election night.
